A Ph.D. in art history, a graduate of the University College of London (UCL), Simon Baker joined Tate Modern in 2009 as a curator at the International Photography and Art Department. He was in charge of the photography exhibitions for both Tate Modern and Tate Britain. He curated many exhibitions, notably the Rencontres Photographiques de Arles (2016-2017) but also overseas.
Professor in Art History at the University of Nottingham, he wrote lots of publication about Art History and Photography. In April 2018, Simon Baker succeeded Jean Luc Monterosso, as Director of the Maison Européenne de la photographie.
