Ming Smith (b. Detroit, Michigan) documents everyday moments through her ethereal 
transcendent works. She was the first black female photographer acquired by the Museum  Modern Art and the first female member of the influential photography collective, Kamoinge. Currently, she is in Soul of a Nation organized by Tate Modern at San Francisco’s de Young Museum. Upcoming exhibitions include Working Together: Louis Draper and the Kamoinge Workshop (multiple venues 2020) and Just Above Midtown (MoMA 2022). A monograph published by Aperture is forthcoming. Her work is in collections including the Whitney Museum, the Brooklyn Museum, the Detroit Art Institute, and the National Gallery of Art.
