He is Professor Emeritus of History of Consciousness at the University of California, Santa Cruz; and Emeritus Millard Chair of Fine Art at Goldsmiths College, University of London. His most recent theory books are The Camera: Essence and Apparatus (2018) and Le film qui me reste en mémoire (2019).
